Notes from the Field

Rock-Howard-Mastiff Ski Traverse

While Adrienne and three of her fellow motivated females were off on a ski trip up Mt. Maude, John and Drew Lovell got out for one last ski tour of their own.   The following is an excerpt from John's journal.

"Drew called Saturday morning while I was rigging rods on the Yakima River and asked if I was up for a ski tour on Sunday. After a little pep talk with myself I agreed. We meet at Hatchery Creek with our eyes on Big Jim. A quick drive up the road and we found trees down and patchy snow that we weren't into dealing with, so we changed plans and headed for the Rock Mt. area. Drew mentioned the Rock-Howard-Mastiff traverse as one idea. I agreed not fully understanding what this meant"

Experience Says

Take care of your feet

With full-blown summer on our doorstep its not uncommon for Washingtonians to start thinking of getting out on a walk or hike for some exercise.   Often the footwear required for such exercise has seen little attention since last fall.   With this in mind, we would like to take this opportunity to recommend a few helpful ways to take care of your feet.

•  How long have you had those?   Are your shoes/boots really old?   If so think about replacing them.   I know, its expensive but you will have better posture, less fatigue, and healthier muscle-skeletal system if you just replace those.

•  So your shoes aren't that old or don't warrant being replaced.   How about some added support with aftermarket foot-beds?   We've been using aftermarket foot-beds for years and cant tell you what a difference it makes.   My arches don't ache.   I can walk a lot further with heavier loads and my shoes last longer.

•  Try some new socks.   Look into replacing those comfy cotton socks with a sock made for active use.   These socks have better designs and materials for the wear and tear of prolonged use while protecting those areas that often see blisters.

P.S.   Feet your welcome!
